Canning Conveyor complete second phase for Kinegar Quarry

25th February 2009

Located on the east coast of the Scottish Borders Kinegar Quarries Ltd supplies bulk and bagged aggregates from Northumberland to Edinburgh and the Lothian's, and also throughout the Scottish Borders.

Canning Conveyor, having previously installed a new cantilevered stockpile conveyor for their face operation in has now completed a second phase upgrade at the Glenfin hard rock quarry.

This second phase involved the installation of a new reclaim system which included a new 3m diameter x 40m long reclaim tunnel and a reclaim conveyor 1000mm wide x 50 metres long. The new conveyor incorporates Canning standard ground conveyor sections, 'Cannoflex' belting and a 22kW 'SuperDrive' head drive system.

The reclaim conveyor fed by three vibrating feeders, runs within the tunnel and then elevates up to feed onto a 1000mm wide x 22 metre long radial stockpiling conveyor, which includes a full length walkway with head platform. This stockpiling conveyor is driven by a ceramic lagged 22kW 'SuperDrive'™ motorized drive unit, 'Cannoflex' conveyor belting and 'Rulmeca' snub and tail non drive drums.

Designed, detailed and manufactured by Canning Conveyor the project included the full installation, site vulcanising of belts and final commissioning.

The second phase project has been a total success; Arnot Findlay-Director, commented, "This second phase of three upgrades shall play a key role in our aim to continually improve safety and efficiency, whilst maintaining a flexible processing system which produces a wide range of high quality products."
